Is there a right way up?

For 47 days in 1961, Matisse’s painting Le Bateau hung upside down in the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Apparently none of the Museum’s curatorial staff, or 280 art critics, noticed. The mistake was spotted by a member of the public.

I find that a curious thing. Is there a right way up? If so, says who? Does it matter anyway?

This story speaks to the fact that we all see things a certain way, until someone else comes along who sees things differently. I reckon that’s the real value consultants and brand strategists and creative minds bring to a business. They see what the business cannot see. And once seen it can literally change the world in which they are operating.
