Trump
Personal branding shapes who gets attention, trust, and loyalty. It’s big. More than ever.
And no one has taken it further than Donald Trump. He hasn’t built a brand around products. He’s built products and a massive customer loyalty base around a name. His name.
Love him or not, Trump is the most complete identity-led personal brand in the world.
And this is how he did it …

Phase 1. Building-led Identity
This is where it started. Trump Tower. Trump International Hotels & Towers. Trump Plaza / Trump World Tower. Trump National Golf Clubs.
The play was simple. Attach the Trump name to luxury, scale, and visibility. Even when he didn’t own the asset, he licensed the name.
From Turnberry in Scotland to Doral in Miami, the strategy stayed consistent. The Trump name became a symbol of wealth.

Phase 2. Media Identity
Then came amplification. The Apprentice, Celebrity Apprentice, cameos like Home Alone 2, and appearances on WWE.
This is how the Trump name moved from buildings into culture. At the same time, it spread across products. Trump Steaks. Trump Vodka. Trump Ice. Trump Fragrances. Trump Home. Trump Mattress. Trump University.
This is where Trump became a personality brand, not just a property brand. The Trump name became a stamp of aspiration and a universal symbol of American success.

Phase 3. Political Identity
Then came escalation. The Trump name has became a political movement that shapes a MAGA USA.
Proposals have included putting Trump’s image on US currency (gold coins, $1 coins, and $100 “Trump bills”) and on passports. Government schemes such as TrumpRx and Trump Accounts carry his name.
The branding push extends to national park passes, and proposals to rename airports and transport hubs in his honour.
This is where the visual association between the presidency and Trump’s personal identity reaches a new level. Branding the national experience. MAGA!

Phase 4. Monitised Identity
This is when the model gets stripped back. The Trump brand becomes the product, and its value is driven by attention and belief. That’s why he posts those Jesus-like images of himeslf.
You’re buying proximity to the identity, and so the name itself becomes tradable.
The $TRUMP Coin was launched in Jan 2025, just before the inauguration. It was branded with Trump’s face and promoted with Trump raising a fist raised after an assassination attempt.
In 2022, he launched Trump Digital Trading Cards, featuring Trump in superhero poses, business roles, and symbolic imagery. The Trump persona now became collectible mythology.
The expansion also includes the $15,000 Trump Gold Card visa programme.

Personal Branding Builds Identity
Most brands sell products and services. Some sell ideas. Trump sells identity.
Personal branding is what builds that identity. And identity is the fastest way to attract attention, build trust, and stand out in a crowded world of 8.3 billion people.
When personal brand identity is established, it can extend anywhere. Buildings. Golf clubs. Reality TV. Vodka. Mattresses. Government schemes. Airports. Currency. Trading cards.
Perhaps you don’t want to extend as far and as wide as that. But if you’re looking to build your own personal brand, you could do worse than take a page out of Donald Trump’s playbook 😂
